Recommended Materials
These drawings can be as simple or as artsy as you want. One of my sisters trace them on canvas and paint over them then make bags. I've also traced them out on t-shirts and painted over them.
They also work as paint by numbers paintings. Oriental paintings are usually gouache or watercolor, so if you want that authentic feel, you can print them out on either watercolor paper or rice paper, then paint over them with watercolor or gouache.
It's easier to use it on rice paper because rice paper is translucent. You can easily trace over the guide coloring book lines that you've printed on ordinary paper directly with the pencil or paint. If you're using watercolor paper, what I usually do is print very faint lines in another color and then trace over them with gouache which is opaque and can hide the telltale print lines.
I'm a watercolor pencil person myself, and these are what I like to use. What I usually do is draw over the outlines with the pencil itself, then just wash over them with a waterbrush. Of course, there are many ways you can use these coloring book pages. There's no right or wrong way. Just make sure you have fun. Enjoy!
